- What is your role at Scoop?
I’m the Managing Director. I took a jump to go freelance in January 2020 (I know – great timing!) and originally started Scoop with the plan to work as a freelance consultant and to spend some time travelling. We all know what happened next! After 18 months contracting for some brilliant agencies I took on Ellie as my first member of staff and it snowballed from there. We now have a brilliant team and an amazing roster of clients.
- Which is the best PR/Marketing project you’ve worked on?
I genuinely don’t know if I can choose. I’ve worked on some ace projects including launching Capital in Liverpool with a huge branded bus, countless restaurant launches, and almost too many festivals to count. My favourite element of every campaign though is collaborations and partnerships. I think being able to look at contacts across networks and work out how to use them to drive the very best result is really enjoyable. In PR this might be using our wonderful media contacts to drive coverage, like with our Skiddle festival campaign, and in our marketing campaigns it might entail working with partners like the property managers or like-minded brands.
- What’s your favourite thing to do in Manchester?
I love that in Manchester you can just bump into someone and have a good old catch up. From a PR & marketing perspective, we have a wonderful community in Manchester and if I’m out and about in the city centre I’ll often bump into someone else in the industry and have a really good natter. I wouldn’t want to work anywhere else.
From a personal level, I love going out with friends for food in the city. We have so much choice, it feels like there is something new popping up every week and there are so many amazing local producers. You’re probably most likely to catch me with a Margarita or Manchester Union Lager doing a bit of people watching, or in the Arndale Market grabbing a Vietshack or Just Natas.
- What motivates you?
The team. We’re still a really young business and it feels like every member of the team really owns their piece of it. From the very beginning, every member of the team has got really stuck in, and given the business and their clients their absolute all. One of our key values is nurture, and the team all really embody that. They nurture each other, their clients, and the business. It’s been incredible to watch them all at great speed and I can’t wait to see what they all accomplish next.
It’s also a pleasure to be able to say that we are hugely motivated by our clients, we really relate to them and work really closely to understand the nuts & bolts of each business. Like us, they are all savvy, ambitious and hungry to grow. We’ve grown our key accounts over the last few months, building on our creative campaigns and taking on higher scopes of works. I think this shows true testament to the work the team have done and the relationships we have built with each and every one.
- What do you do in your spare time?
At the moment every second of my spare time is being spent turning an old Mercedes Sprinter into a campervan! I love having a project and since my house is pretty much finished, the van it was! As soon as it’s complete I’ll be using it whenever poss to spend a few days camping and enjoying the great outdoors with my pup (& chief happiness officer) Mags.
